The eyes are not only the windows to the soul they can also give a clear indication of your general health.  Even if you haven’t noticed a change in your vision you should consider an eye test as an integral part of a ‘Spring Clean’ for your body. Along with improvements in diet and exercise everyone should also have an eye test to be in the best possible shape for Summer.

If you work with computers and are feeling the strain in focusing on your screen all day then an eye test might help make your day more comfortable. Checking your prescription annually is good idea as your eyes can change dramatically in your 30s and 40s. This often becomes apparent when you realise you are holding paperwork further and further away from you to read it properly!

During an eye test your professional eye health expert will undertake specific checks for: glaucoma which results in ‘tunnel’ vision; cloudiness in the lens which could show the start of a cataract; and any yellow deposits at the back of the eye which indicate age-related macular degeneration. A good eye health expert will also offer a scan of your retina to check that it is in good health with plenty, but not too many, veins supplying blood.

Having your eyes checked regularly by a trained ophthalmologist can improve more than your vision. Blood pressure problems, diabetes and multiple sclerosis can present within the eye and early action is vital to ensure that you can treat conditions and manage them correctly.

Moorfields Private offers a full eye examination service. For more details please click here
